Archive for Thoughts

It’s been a while, hasn’t it.

It’s been about a year or so since I last posted here. OK. Maybe not that long, but I just haven’t had a chance to talk about all the good stuff that is happening around the world from mini black holes to Palin to Israel getting ready to attack Iran. I have been considering giving the keys to CT to someone who can keep it up to date, but haven’t really thought of anyone for that position yet. We shall see.

TV Disaster: Stupid shows, more stupid commercials!

I have personally never been able to really justify the bill that I pay for my cable TV services. The thing about cable TV is that there is nothing good one when you can actually watch TV. Of course, good programs are onwhen you are at work or asleep. But how stupid have commercials gotten these years. I have seen pretty much everything from cavemen to animals talking with British accent about car insurance. But when you put a fat lady as the spokesman for a weight loss program, it just goes on to show that these people think of us viewers as complete idiots.

Now it doesn’t take a genius to realize that a weight loss commercial would be more effective if you actually use a fit person (preferably someone who has been fat before and lost a lot of weight). But what message are you sending if you use a fat person for your weight loss program (that you will lose weight even though our system doesn’t even work for our so called spokesmen?). Now that’s what I call a stupid commercial. But then again there is the gecko.

Election In The U.S. Has Become A Nightmare That Never Ends!

Such a promising start to the election and such a disappointing finish. People talked about how different this election is from other years as we have a woman and an African American running for the office. But a few months later these guys have torn each other apart and have shown that regardless of your gender and nationality, if you are politician, you tend to act like a snake. You try to bite your rival first to ground them down. I was very impressed with Obama at the start, but now, who really cares. Same old politics, same old stuff.

End Of Format War: Blu-Ray KOs HD-DVD

Two great formats with one common purpose. To bring High Definition 1080P and above to our homes. Well, this world is two big for two formats and one had to go. This time it was HD-DVDs turn to go. Today Walmart announced that they will too drop HD-DVD to carry only Blu-Ray in the future. Industry experts are now claiming that Toshiba will phase out HD-DVD without too much fuss and admit it has lost the format war II. Of course in a consumer driven economy, there will always be a format war (often ones that consumers don’t win). But I am glad we all can now focus on Blu-Ray for the next few years before the next great format comes out. By the way, that PS3 investment now seems to have been justified ;)

Ethical, Legal, or Religion?

Here is the million dollar question. If you were faced with a decision that was ethical, but not legal or legal but not ethical, which one would you choose? How about if you add religion to this equation? What if your decision is right by your decision but not legal? Tough question, isn’t it?

So Who’s The Lucky…?

Imagine you are having a great day. You have gotten your life back together. You have straightened out your financial situation, and bam it happens. A wrecked satellite hits your house or your car. That could certainly happen according to NASA. A disabled satellite is approaching earth now, and it can hit anywhere at this point. So if you are an insurance company, you can maybe start a satellite protection insurance program. Of course, if you are a consumer, you can just hope and pray that the thing doesn’t hit your property. I am sure the threat is not huge, but still it’s fun to work the possibilities.

Bobby Fischer “The Hero Turned Villian” Dies!

Too young to die by today’s standards, Robert James Fischer has passed away in Iceland after failing to checkmate his kidney issues. Bobby Fischer “the enigma” became the world champion in 1972 and perhaps was the biggest inspiration the modern era’s chess generation. He was actively pursued by the U.S. government for defying its orders against playing in Yugoslavia. My personal take is that no one deserves to die like Bobby, irrespective of what he has said. He was harmless and became homeless once U.S. started pursuing him around the world. It is to my amazement that murderers such as Bin Laden get to live their lives whereas harmless former world chess champion are isolated in Iceland to die alone, away from their friends and country. Shame!

Online Media: Play With Fire Long Enough and You May Burn Yourself!

You all have heard of sites such as FaceBook, MySpace, and Linkedin, and many of you probably are active on these sites. But what many people forget is that your employer can also go to these sites and you need to watch out what you say. Of course, someone as hot as myself may not really care what the employer thinks, but misunderstandings can lead to excruciating arguments with your boss. I personally posted a general question to one of these online websites and I got numerous answers that were quite disrespectful towards my employer. While the goal of my question was not that, only God knows what will happen in case someone from work reads that. When it comes to online media one can’t be too careful, so watch your back!

N.H Shows Lack Of Backbone in choosing Clinton

Clinton? Is that what the free-minded people of N.H think is right for this country? I am no Obama or Edwards fan, but by giving the majority vote to Clinton, N.H showed what is wrong with the politics in America. We vote because we feel for our gender. We vote because we feel loyal to a brand. We vote because we feel sorry for a crying woman, which while noble does not guarantee anything for the future of this nation. Clinton may win the nomination and become the first woman president, but she will definitely not be the most qualified person for the job. But I guess that would not be completely out of the blue in the country that your connections, your money, and your husband determine who you can be not your merits! N.H had the opportunity to say no to the old politics tonight, and instead the good people of N.H decided to brain freeze. I respect those voters who voted for Edwards, Obama, and others, but those who voted for Clinton should be ashamed of themselves as Clinton was the easy way out.

Diets Don’t Work?

While I was waiting for Ron Paul to win the Iowa caucus, I saw this ad that was talking about how diets don’t work and WeightWatchers does. I understand that some diets are unhealthy and some are so tough that people just can’t follow them. But the reason diets fail is because of the will of people who are on them. Some people are just weak and do not want to miss a meal. At the very same time, they would like to lose a pound a day by eating out! But just because some people hate missing meals doesn’t mean that all diets don’t work. WeightWatchers is probably a good plan but it ain’t magic!
