Crazy School Bus In Town!

I am one of those people who is always expecting things to happen before they actually do! It’s a disease, I know! For instance, when I see a green light from a distance and while driving towards it, I expect it to turn yellow-red any second. Can’t be too cautious these days with insurance rates going up, and police having nothing to do but dishing out a few “harmless” tickets. But what I do pay attention the most to when driving are school buses. In many states, passing a flashing school bus leads to license suspension and that is something I can’t afford to deal with these days.

Based on my understanding of the rules, a school bus with flashing lights is either about to pickup or drop off students. But a few days ago, I witnessed the strangest thing. I was about to make a left turn and suddenly I see a school bus speeding, coming from behind, and with its lights flashing red. Now here was my dilemma: before I could make my turn, this bus passed me by. It is still flashing, and it’s mini stop sign was wide out too. Do I stop for speeding school bus which happens to be malfunctioning, or do I make a turn like nothing’s happened? What would you do? I decided to stop and let it pass me by to be safe, but a school bus driver should have no right to abuse the rules, should she?

School bus drivers should not be able to abuse the rules. I am currently doing research for an article, and have observed buses going at least40 in our neighberhood, where the speed limit is 20. The worst part about it is that there are young children playing in the streets at the times when buses pass through, and they are at risk for being hit.

I totally agree with you, but as with police officers, school bus drivers tend to abuse the rules when they can. Unfortunately, it happens all the time, and nobody seems to be able to stop this trend.
