What Can You Expect From the New Mac OS?

Mac OS 10.5 is finally coming out in a couple of weeks, and one has to wonder whether Apple can get anything wrong with their marketing campaign for this cool looking piece of software.  With all the huff and puff that we had with Windows Vista and Microsoft’s whole “WOW Yourself” campaign, Apple’s Mac OS looks to be a much better marketed product with much less effort, it seems. The problem with Windows Vista was that people were forced by Microsoft to buy into it. “You need to update because it has less security holes in its code.” Fair enough! Everybody says that. But Vista has had numerous software and hardware compatibility issues, and Microsoft is not fast enough to fix all these little issues. Apple on the other hand has often had the better “looking” product, but less customers. But Apple uses its portfolio of products such as iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, and … to push its OS, and now people are starting to realize that they don’t necessarily have to deal with the pains involved with using Windows Vista. It sure does help that Apple computers are now intel-based, allowing Windows fanatics to install their favorite sofware on their Macs. With the way Microsoft is playing catch up in multiple fronts, it is not out of the realm of possibility to see Mac OS take the lead in the consumer OS market. There is one hurdle left remaining, however: The high price of Macs, and the inability of users to put Mac OS on non-mac PCs.
