SunRocket Fall Disproves the Notion of Bargain VOIP Service

A year ago a very good friend of mine told me about a service that was so cheap it would dwarf anything offered by Vonage and Verizon. I took a chance and signed up for that service, with the catchy name of SunRocket. Never in my dreams I thought I would see a day when a service company with over 200K customers disappeared in a night and left all its customers behind. Unfortunately, it’s what happened with SunRocket. I personally had a 24 months prepaid contract with them, which means I am out of 15 months even though I have paid for them in advance. But money is not an issue here. The inconvenience of getting up one day realizing that your phone company is out of business, and the fact that they had no dignity or respect for their customers to inform them beforehand of what was happening. SunRocket went down after burning through the investors money by offering prices that were unbeatable even by the soon-to-be bankrupt Vonage. I now believe that SunRocket was perhaps losing as much they were charging per account per every new account! That’s right. For every $1 they were making, they were losing $2! That’s the only way you can burn through $80 mil in such a short period of time. My heart goes to the families of SunRocket’s employees. It appears that they were informed only last night that they were not going to have a job or any post-employment support whatsoever. So for those of them who were living paycheck to paycheck, this is going to be very difficult time. I am still baffled by the fact that a company such as SunRocket could dare to treat its customers and employees as they have done. But, I am thankful that they provided me one extra day of service, meaning today, so I could call up a landline phone service provider. That’s it for my adventure with startup VOIP firms.

In my opinion, Lingo offer comparatively better services to VoIP users. They are now offering good deals for SunRocket customers, including one month free, free shipping, free activation and free equipment. They have some flexible and unlimited-minute calling plans to make hassle free calls in Western European countries. All these calling plans have numerous added features such as voicemail, call forwarding, call waiting, redial, 911, 411, and local number portability. Moreover, they have the ability to receive voicemails as attachments to email.

With the sudden abrupt shut down, SunRocket has again shown their true disloyalty to their customers. Though they have shown us the way towards Packet8 or TeleBlend, I think not to follow that path. I feel Lingo can offer much better services. They have fine promo offers for SunRocket customers such as monthly $21.95 promotional calling plan and annual $195 calling plan.

As SunRocket has gone out of business, I think it would be cheaper to sign up with Lingo. Because of their attractive money back guaranteed local and international calling plans and Primus connection, they will keep my VoIP calling account protected until it expire.
