Voice-over-IP Dilemma: What’s Next After SunRocket VoIP

SunRocket has announced that they will completely discontinue their service on August 5th, 2007. SunRocket was the second pure VoIP provider in the nation after Vonage with over 200,000 customers. Most of those customers are left betrayed by a company that took their money away, and now is unlikely to compensate them for the months of service that it owed them. Former SunRocket customers are looking at numerous VoIP providers to keep their phone service going beyond above-mentioned date. Teleblend is one of the many VoIP providers that are trying to attract SunRocket customers. Unfortunately, that service is recommended by SunRocket itself! It is astonishing that a fraud such as SunRocket sees appropriate to recommend a VoIP service to its users when it should be giving them their money back. Teleblend seems to be SunRocket but with a different name. Other companies such as Vonage, ViaTalk. VoIP.com, and 8&8 are more reliable, but it remains to be seen if VoIP can survive SunRocket scandal.

Resident Evil 3: Extinction Is On Its Way!

Fans of the Resident Evil franchise are not going to be left disappointed as the third installment of the Resident Evil franchise is coming to movie theaters on September 21. Resident Evil 2 was a disappointing movie as it did not live up to the expectations. However, with the addition of new cast members such as Ali Larter, Resident Evil 3 Extinction promises to top the first 2 movies. Of course, in the end the Resident Evil franchise has failed to be as scary as its game counterpart.

Business 2.0 On the verge of extinction

Business 2.0 magazine is set to join the dinosaurs on the list of extinct species. Business 2.0 was a Business/Tech magazine that offered ideas and thoughts on startups and new technology developments around the globe. Unfortunately, Business 2.0 is not making enough money to sustain itself. RedHerring, InfoWorld, and PC Magazine are all a part of a rather significant group of magazines that are extinct or maybe on the verge of extinction. The Internet has arguably made it difficult for companies to justify the cost of putting out print editions of their magazines. But I wonder if Business 2.0 will continue to be available online now that its print edition is gone.

Get Those PS3s Before They Are Gone

Sony cut prices on its PS3 60 GB line apparently to attract more customers. However, it seems now that Sony is actually getting rid of that line to introduce a new $699 PS3 with 80gb capacity. So for those of you who are planning to buy one soon, you better get it now as it seems retail companies will not restock them once the 60gb PS3s are out of stock.

SunRocket Fall Disproves the Notion of Bargain VOIP Service

A year ago a very good friend of mine told me about a service that was so cheap it would dwarf anything offered by Vonage and Verizon. I took a chance and signed up for that service, with the catchy name of SunRocket. Never in my dreams I thought I would see a day when a service company with over 200K customers disappeared in a night and left all its customers behind. Unfortunately, it’s what happened with SunRocket. I personally had a 24 months prepaid contract with them, which means I am out of 15 months even though I have paid for them in advance. But money is not an issue here. The inconvenience of getting up one day realizing that your phone company is out of business, and the fact that they had no dignity or respect for their customers to inform them beforehand of what was happening. SunRocket went down after burning through the investors money by offering prices that were unbeatable even by the soon-to-be bankrupt Vonage. I now believe that SunRocket was perhaps losing as much they were charging per account per every new account! That’s right. For every $1 they were making, they were losing $2! That’s the only way you can burn through $80 mil in such a short period of time. My heart goes to the families of SunRocket’s employees. It appears that they were informed only last night that they were not going to have a job or any post-employment support whatsoever. So for those of them who were living paycheck to paycheck, this is going to be very difficult time. I am still baffled by the fact that a company such as SunRocket could dare to treat its customers and employees as they have done. But, I am thankful that they provided me one extra day of service, meaning today, so I could call up a landline phone service provider. That’s it for my adventure with startup VOIP firms.

Harry Potter’s Ending Spoiled!

It seems that crazy potter fans have found a way of knowing the ending of the latest Potter book before it is even out. Some maniac was able to copy pieces of the book, and then he graciously put it online for all of us to see. Of course, if you know anything about P2P services such as Limewire, eDonkey, and BitTorrent, then you stand a good chance of getting your hands on the spoilers. Now, whether Harry Potter dies in this ending book matters not. What matters is that this piece of news will probably bring even more people to the Potter’s table. I almost feel sorry for the author, but then again she will be making trillions out of this whole series. The sad part about this whole story is that someone was stupid enough to put it on the Internet. If you know about the ending, why not keep it to yourself?

Federer Wins 11th Grand Slam, Tiger Woods Next

Federer finally won his 11th Slam and now is only 3 away from Sampras’ record of 14 slams. Tiger woods however has to start thinking about conceding the best athletes title to Mr. Federer. Tiger has 12 slams but he cannot possibly keep up pace with Federer. If I were a betting man, I would put my money on Federer getting 18 slams before Tiger does.

WordPress Spam Still a Big Issue

I know that the folks behind Wordpress are trying their best to protect bloggers from spams and all the stuff going on the Web these days. But spammers seem to always find a way to get around the security walls. It’s also amazing that spammers don’t have enough brain to come up with more intelligent messages. Messages such as “This is great. Thanks for what you are doing, buy Viagra now” are just dumb. I guess for spammers it’s just the matter of getting the link out there and who knows. There are plenty of people who buy Viagra online from an unknown link, right?! When these people learn!

Bush Vs. Ahmadinejad: Who’s Worst?

In the battle for the supremacy for the worst president in the history of mankind, Mr. George W. Bush and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are running neck to neck. Mr. Ahmadinejad is just a mindless president who says what he feels without realizing that he is representing the nation of Iran. Mr. Bush has simply gone off the rails by bullying the congress and vetoing everything that he doesn’t like. Of course, it doesn’t help that he has started a war that has made America less popular around the world. So, in your opinion, who is the worst president? Mindless Ahmadinejad or Cowboy Bush?

Entrepreneurship On the Rise?

The good news in these days, believe me it’s hard to find it with all the war and terrorist attacks going on around the world, is the fact that more Americans are taking the risk to start their own businesses. There was a time were most people were satisfied with their 9-5 jobs but not anymore. Analysts are claiming that entrepreneurship in America is on the rise. People like to be able to gain independence and take control of their own destinies. While many will fail in their efforts to run their own businesses, the fact that more people are trying should be good news for America. We are falling behind in many areas, and the last thing we don’t need is an entrepreneurial spirit drain in our society. So which one of you is planning to quit 925 to start a new business?
